I saw the documentary on public TV a few months ago. Had never heard of The Fort Fisher Hermit until then. Now I'm thinking I want to pay tribute to the Hermit in a juvenile novel I am writing. So I googled him and how fortunate for me that the documentary is airing again tonight!

Enjoyed your blogpost. A very nice tribute!

I was wondering if you could send me a picture of the hermit while he was fishing. He past away before I was able to meet him, but could certainly understand his reasoning in wanting to escape. :)
What a awesome story!! I would love to hang a sweet picture of him up in my home to remember him and all that he stood for. I appreciate your time in which you took to share a continue to share the thoughts and stories of this geniue person. We all can still learn alot from this sweet soul!

Our local paper had an article today stating Mr. Harrill was born in Gaffney, SC in 1893 but spent a lot of his time in Shelby, NC. We have a copy of the article if anyone would like to view it. Great story about this gentleman.

Hi Neal and Liz,
I have been facinated by the story of Robert Harrill since I first heard about him and would love to read the article on him. Is it in the local Shelby newspaper? Thank you for your information. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Bella,

We live in Gaffney, SC. There is a free weekly paper that comes out here called "The Weekly Ledger" and the story was in Tuesdays edition. I'm sure my parents probably still have their copy (as I'm saving ours) and we'll be glad to send it to you. You're more than welcome to email us with information on how to get a copy to you.

We saw the Documentary about Mr. Harrill several months ago and it was heartbreaking. We can't believe his death was not investigated. He seemed to be such a gentle person. His story was so touching. We look forward to reading the book on his life.

We were amazed to find that he was born here in our hometown of Gaffney, SC, but spent most of his life in Shelby, NC.

We look forward to hearing from you.
