Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill
Feb 29th, 2008 by Bella
A few friends and I went out to dinner at Jack Mackerel’s in Kure Beach last Wednesday (along with the rest of the island). The current special for Wednesday nights is 40% off all entrees, and evidently I was the last to find out. My friends and I arrived early and stayed quite a while visiting. There was a constant stream of people waiting for dinner the entire time. I have not been there for dinner before and I was pleasantly surprised. We had a wonderful time in a comfortable atmosphere with some good service.
Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill stays true to its name with the island theme throughout the restaurant: cheerfully decorated with bright colors and tropical flowers and plants. There are thatched umbrellas beside bamboo tables with comfortable wicker chairs. In nicer weather there is outdoor seating on an upstairs deck that offer a bit of an ocean view. A perfect spot to catch the ocean breeze.
The menu really covers all of the bases. While it obviously leans heavily toward seafood, there are plenty of choices for all. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken tomato basil pasta served with a Cesar salad. My friends tried the crab dip, a shrimp pasta dish and chicken tender platter with fries. All of the food tasted great.
Jack Mackerel’s has a whole list of sandwiches for lunch: flounder, portabella mushroom, blackened chicken, tuna and salmon. Dinner entrees combine steamed or fried oysters, shrimp, scallops or flounder. There is salmon, tuna and terryiaki chicken. Many salads, pasta, and even ribs. These items are really just a sampling of all that they offer. The entire menu is pretty extensive and can be viewed on their website here.
Jack Mackerel’s is running nightly specials right now. Monday is “Prime Rib”, Tuesday “All you can Eat Shrimp” and Wednesday “40% off all entrees”. To check on the current specials, call before you go 910-458-7668. Jack Mack’s is located in the heart of Kure Beach, just down from the pier at 101 K Avenue (at the corner of K and Fort Fisher Blvd). You can check them out on the web here
